A little love from Baltimore.

A big thanks to the Baltimore Blog, Pasta Primavera, for a mention in their Toofer Toosday post this week. Check them out on the web by following the above links!!!!!

“Man Plus get their name form a science fiction novel by Frederick Kohl where a man slowly becomes a cyborg so he can live on Mars. Well the band isn’t from Mars, but from Seattle, and they’re not cyborgs (though I could be wrong). Instead their a five piece band that sounds like electronics shaing hands with drums that pat male/female(Jared and Ellen) duo vocals on the back. Jared’s voice wavers between po and aggressive often complementing the rhythm of each song while Ellen’s calm vocals sway with the musical patterns that underly them. Man Plus plays BEASTLY/light indie rock…or bi polar indie rock…or something else that I haven’t thought of yet…hmmm…it’s good. And they’ve got a new album out called The Hungarian Suicide Songbook…go get it!”

The folks over at Pasta Primavera are right – you should go get our album, Hungarian Suicide Songbook, it’s on cdbaby, myspace and iTunes. You can also check it out on lastfm.com as well.

FINALLY, we’re gearing up for a couple of shows we’re playing over the next two weeks: Hard Candy @ King Cobra tomorrow night (4.23); Saturday 4.26 @ Bob’s World Famous Java Jive in Tacoma; the Ballard Music Festival, Friday 5/9; and last, but far from least, we’ll be in Portland on 5/10 playing the Towne Lounge (we can’t wait to kick it with our PDX friends!!) More details on covers and full bills, as always, at myspace.com/manplus.

Excerpt from the blog – click the link to check out the full story.
“If you were to leave today on a voyage to Mars (or just spend the evening hanging out in your room), you might want to grab a copy of Man PlusMy Kind of People for the journey. The song’s pop rhythms have the power to lift you out of a funk, but its dark lyrics let you retain some of the angst. Jared Mills’ husky repetitive lyrics will have you singing along while the high energy guitar riffs and spacey synths will get your toes tapping. “

Dear devoted fans and mortal enemies,

So very much has been going on in the Man+ world that we’ve neglected to tell you about. The response to the new album has been awesome, and we want to thank every one for their support. KEXP has been playing just about every track off of Hungarian Suicide Songbook and I’m sure they’d be more than willing to play your favorite song on air if you asked nicely.

The lovely people at 3hive.com and threeimaginarygirls.com have reviewed the album and you can read those on their respective sites.

We’re going to be playing at the Sunset Tavern for KEXP Ballard Daysl on May 9th (details on myspace) and in Portland on May 10th (more details on myspace) but there are a couple of shows this month, too. Neumo’s on the 19th, King Cobra on the 23rd and the Java Jive in Tacoma on the 26th. The show on the 26th is for our favorite New Yorker, Eric with Indie Dino.

Last, but far from least, you can download the album on iTunes for only $9.99 (talk about a deal and a half) and buy the real life cd from CD Baby!

xo,
Man Plus, et al.

The Ulitimate Lunchbreak

I was recently told that, according to my co-worker’s mother, I “do not sound very nice on the phone”.  Seeing as how I am employed to primarily answer phones, I am somewhat distraught. Actually, that is a lie, I am not distraught at all. Personally, I think it is kind of funny; especially when it was followed by, “but my mom is a bitch and doesn’t like anyone.” Now I am trying this new technique where I use even MORE of a fake voice to answer calls. It kind of gives me a headache, but makes me laugh all at the same time.

I am on my lunch break right now and that was all I could think of to write. I am on my lunch break for 7 more minutes. When the money starts rolling in and Man Plus hits the big time I will be able to write blogs from my oyster shell shaped bath tub and I will have more exciting things to discuss. It will be the ultimate lunch-break.
